Formula 1 Air Racing Wing Build
This page details the build progress of an International Formula 1 racing wing that I am building with a group of Cal Poly Students for an alumnus, JP O'Dell, racing #39 Monkey Ninja. The wing is a modification to one designed by Cal Poly Professor Paulo Iscold. The wing itself is a laminar flow wing, designed to be optimized for the 3.1875 mile IF1 racing circuit, where pilots race at speeds exceeding 200 mph and executing 6+ G turns, while 50-200 ft above the ground.
The wing is constructed from bidirectional and unidirectional carbon fiber cloth, epoxy resin, PVC closed-cell foam, and wood. Construction began in September, 2022.
